Factors Affecting Adults’ Choice of Opioids for Pain Relief

PainRelief.com: What should readers take away from your report?

Response: Health related attitudes, self-reported mental health, and lifestyle choices such as exercise and smoking are associated with patients’ choices among opioid and non-opioid treatments. These results can help clinicians guide patients towards non-opioid treatments.

PainRelief.com: What recommendations do you have for future research as a result of this work?

Response: We do not know much about the prevalence of non-opioid treatment options for pain, and to what extent insurance coverage affects treatment choice for patients with pain.

This research was conducted by federal employees. No disclosures.
